Due to COVID-19, UT Austin has modified on-campus Family Orientation to be an online format. Below you’ll find answers to common questions about Online Family Orientation. Program and Structure

Is Online Family Orientation required?
Online Family Orientation is optional but strongly recommended.
Why is orientation being moved from an on-campus model to an online model?
As social distancing efforts are extended and travel limitations continue to be announced across the country, the university has determined it is in the best interest of our incoming Longhorns, their parents and families as well as our campus community to shift from the traditional on-campus orientation model to an online format for all sessions this summer.
Can parents/families join the Online Student Orientation program?
No, Online Student Orientation programming is designed specifically for incoming student to begin independently acclimating to university processes and resources and to begin forming connections with their classmates. 
How will the Online Family Orientation model be structured?
It will be a series of pre-recorded content released in phases over a six-week period offering flexibility with work and home obligations while learning about campus. See a Schedule-at-a-Glance here

Registration and Cost

What is the cost to participate in Online Family Orientation?
There is no cost to our incoming parents and families to participate in Online Family Orientation this summer.
Am I required to attend the same orientation session date as my student?
No, Online Family Orientation will not be structured as a one-day program. More structured details will be emailed in the coming weeks.   
I have completed the Online Family Orientation registration process but I have not received a confirmation email.
Once you register your Online Family Orientation Registration Confirmation Email will be sent the following business day. Please email us or call our office at 512-471-2353 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. CT) if you have not received one.
I can not access the password-protected page to view Online Family Orientation Content
In order to gain access to Orientation content you must be registered. The universal password that allows you to gain access to our Online Family Orientation content is included in your "Registration Confirmation" email or in your weekly "Online Family Orientation Phase Details" email sent on Fridays. If you continue to have technical difficulties, please email us or call our office at 512-471-2353 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. CT),
I have completed the Online Family Orientation registration process but need to add an additional registrant.
Please reply to your registration confirmation email with the name, email and relationship of the family member you’d like to add to your registration. Please do not submit a new entry to the registration system.

How can I request accommodations if I have a disability?

Will I be able to visit with my student’s advisor online?
No, academic advisors will be focused on introducing your student to the collegiate advising process and preparing your student to register for classes. If you have questions, review them with your student beforehand to include in their discussion with the advisor.
What if I have questions on a topic not covered in the Online Family Orientation content?
Please submit a Virtual Comment Card located on the Online Family Orientation password-protected webpage.
