Program and Structure

Is Spring Online Family Orientation required?
Spring Online Family Orientation is optional but strongly recommended.
 
Can parents/families join the New Student Orientation program?
No, New Student Orientation programming is designed specifically for incoming students to begin independently acclimating to university processes and resources and to begin forming connections with their classmates. 
 
How will the Spring Online Family Orientation model be structured?
It will be a series of pre-recorded content released Friday, January 7 through Tuesday, January 11, offering flexibility with work and home obligations while learning about campus. Content will be accessible until Monday, January 17 at 11:59 p.m. 
 
Do I need to take time off of work to participate in Spring Online Family Orientation? 
The university understands the many responsibilities you have to balance and has developed a flexible self-paced program for Spring Orientation. The program consists of pre-recorded content that can be watched at any time and at your own pace through Monday, January 17. Our intention when structuring Spring Online Family Orientation was to create an environment similar to an online class where you can log in at any time, watch presentations, ask questions and reference handouts.
 
What digital platform will be used for the orientation program?
Each paid registrant will have their own unique log in access to Spring Online Family Orientation content hosted on Canvas.
 

Registration and Cost

What is the cost to participate in Spring Online Family Orientation?
The cost to register for Spring Online Family Orientation is $15 per person. Registrants will have their own unique log in access to all Spring Online Family Orientation content.  
 
Can I receive a waiver for the registration charge?
No, Spring Online Family Orientation registration cannot be waived.
 
I need to cancel my registration. May I get a refund? 
Registration charges are non-refundable, although exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis. If you need to cancel your registration, please let us know by replying to your registration confirmation email. 
 
I have completed the Spring Online Family Orientation registration process but I have not received a confirmation email.
After completing the registration process, your Spring Online Family Orientation Registration Confirmation Email will be sent within one business day. Please email Texas Parents or call our office at 512-471-2353 (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. CT) if you have not received one.
 
I have completed the Spring Online Family Orientation registration process but need to add an additional registrant.
Please reply to your registration confirmation email with the name, email and relationship of the family member you’d like to add to your registration. Please do not submit a new entry to the registration system.

Will I be able to visit with my student’s advisor online?
No, academic advisors will be focused on introducing your student to UT Austin's advising process and preparing your student to register for classes. If you have questions, review them with your student beforehand and encourage your student to include your questions in the meeting with their advisor.
