Family Weekend FAQs

What is Family Weekend?
Family Weekend is a celebration for our Longhorns and the University they call their home away from home to welcome their families to campus. It is an opportunity for the extended Longhorn Family to come together. At Family Weekend, families can see campus from their Longhorn’s eyes, meet University leadership, as well as their Longhorn’s friends and their families while enjoying a variety of activities and events.

When will Family Weekend be held for the 2024-25 academic year?
Family Weekend will be held Friday-Sunday, April 11-13.
 
Who is invited to Family Weekend?
The families of all UT undergraduate students (currently enrolled and taking classes on campus) are encouraged to visit their Longhorns during Family Weekend.
 
Can my student's siblings, grandparents or other family members attend?
All family members of currently enrolled UT undergraduate students are invited to attend Family Weekend. During registration, you will enter the names of all attendees in your family so that each member will have a Family Weekend lanyard.
 
Is this only for freshmen families?
Families of all currently enrolled UT undergraduate students are invited to attend Family Weekend, no matter their student's grade classification.
 
Is there a cost to register?
There is an $8 per person registration fee for all attendees, including your student(s), which gives access to the Family Weekend offerings. Certain Family Weekend activities may have an additional admission fee (e.g. entry to museums) and are denoted with a $ at the end of the activity's name on the schedule of events.
 
Is parking included?
Parking on UT campus is not included with Family Weekend registration. You will have the opportunity to purchase a parking pass for designated Family Weekend parking area(s) closer to the event date.
 
What activities will take place during Family Weekend?
A variety of activities are planned to showcase the many facets of the Forty Acres. A detailed schedule of activities is available here and others may be added leading up to the dates. In addition to Family Weekend activities, several great events are also taking place on campus this weekend including:
  • Texas Exes Class Ring Celebration | Friday, April 11
  • Longhorn Run 2025 | Saturday, April 12
 
When should I arrive for Family Weekend?
Family Weekend attendees are encouraged to arrive Thursday evening so they have the opportunity to attend open houses, visit campus museums, spend time with their Longhorn and come to the Welcome Reception.
 
Will my Longhorn's school or college be participating in the Welcome Reception on Friday evening?
All colleges and schools with undergraduate programming will be participating in the Welcome Reception, as well as several non-academic offices and departments.
 
Will my student's school or college have its own programming?
All colleges and schools will be participating in the Welcome Reception instead of hosting separate events.
 
Will the University coordinate accommodations at local hotels?
The University does not have “Family Weekend” blocks held at local hotels. However, Texas Parents Association supporting members are encouraged to check out the Member Benefit Portal for a list of hotel discounts. The Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau website offers hotel suggestions across the city: https://www.austintexas.org/places-to-stay/.
 
Are there other activities happening this weekend in Austin?

Picking Up Your Family Weekend Lanyards and Printed Schedule
All Family Weekend registrants (excluding your UT student who will use their UT ID for admittance) will receive official Family Weekend lanyards which must be worn to access Family Weekend, Additional Activities On and Around the Forty Acres and The Arts and Nature events/facilities. Printed schedules that include a campus map as well as a QR code for easy access to the Family Weekend website details will also be provided (one per family).

You (or your student with their UT ID) can pick up your Family Weekend registration materials the week of the event. Times and locations to be specified closer to the date.
